NEWS & EVENTS

Constitution Day Celebrations:

At our inaugural evening event in September 2007, nearly 200 students, split into eleven faculty-guided groups, discussed / debated constitutional issues with the assistance of four Constitutional scholars, culminating in a broad range of student conclusions. This year, we will repeat this process on 9/24/2008 while adding an Artistic Competition (see categories below) to the celebration with the cooperation of the Arts & Humanities Division.

- Two-Dimensional Art - i.e. paintings, drawings
- Three-Dimensional Art - i.e. sculpture, ceramics, metal work
- Creative Writing - i.e. poetry and fiction
- Essay - i.e. personal or academic essay or opinion piece, referring to the Federalist #10

Press conference announcing the winners of the contest will occur on 9/17/2008 at the ACC Highland Business Center.

Diez y Seis:

CPPPS is producing Senator Gonzalo Barrientos' annual Diez y Seis de Septiembre celebration, which was previously held at the Capital during his tenure. This free hour-long program at ACC's Riverside campus on 9/16/2008 will host guest speakers and local entertainment including Mariachi and Conjunto bands and Ballet Folklorico dancers. ACC faculty, staff, students, and Austin community are happily invited to attend.
